IMPORTANT ACHIEVEMENTS FOR PARIS 2024 MIGHT BE THE KEY MILESTONES OF 2023

OLYMPIC TORCH LIT IN GREECE 16 APRIL 24

USPA NEWS - The city of lights is heading to the next year 2024, and embracing the largest sportive event, Paris 2024 Olympics & Paralympic games, and marking an important century anniversary, since 1924.
As all the athletes f the world, together with their fans from nearly two hundred countries, Paris is getting ready to step into 2024 for what will be the year of the Paris Games, marking also the one of a kind by merging the Olympic and Paralympic and showcasing the street art Pop, in a very inclusive gesture, decided by the French Committee led by Tony Estanguet. RECAP OF THE ACHIEVEMENTS BY PARIS 2024 COMMITTEE TOWARDS THE OLYMPIADS OF 2024
Paris 2024, International Communications Team has put together a short and simple recap of the important achievements of last year 2023, the key milestones coming up next year and some quotes from the President, Tony Estanguet, CEO and directors for sustainability and legacy, two key pillars of our Games.

SUCCESSFUL TEST EVENTS
• This summer, a range of test events were organised, which gave us a real flavour of what we are going to experience in 2024 
• These included sailing in Marseille, a triathlon and para triathlon in the heart of Paris with athletes swimming in the Seine and mountain biking at the Elancourt Hill on the outskirts of Paris 
OLYMPIC & PARALYTIC TICKETING
• 380,000 out of 400,000 tickets made available on 30 November for the Olympic Games were sold within 24 hours. Appetite for the Games remains incredibly strong 
• 7.6 million tickets out of 10 million overall for the Olympic Games have been sold to date
• Since the start of the sales, tickets have been sold to spectators from 197 countries in addition to France 
• 65.2% of tickets sold in France, 8.1% in Great Britain, the USA, Germany and the Netherlands making up the top five countries
• Tickets have been sold in more than 190 countries 
• The top 5 sports with the most ticket sales:  
? Football 
? Athletics  
? Basketball 
? Rugby 7s  
? Volleyball 
• 31% of buyers aged between 25 and 34 years 
• Paralympic tickets went on sale on 9 October with more than 830k sold since then

VOLUNTEER PROGRAMME  
• The volunteer team is taking shape: 
? More than 300 000 applications have been received  
? 45,000 volunteers have been selected  
? Between September and December 2023, each candidate was contacted to inform them whether or not they were assigned a role within the scope of the Games 

OLYMPIC TORCH RELAY ROUTE
• The torch relay route was revealed this year 
• The flame will be lit in Olympia, Greece on the 16 April 2024 
• From Greece, it will embark on the Belem and arrive at Le Vieux Port in Marseille  
• Key Numbers Olympic Torch Relay:  
$ 68 days of relay in France  
$ 64 territories crossed and 5 overseas  
$ 65 city stops  
$ + 450 cities visited 
$ 10,000 Olympic Torchbearers: 7,000 individual “Forerunners” and 3,000 team “Forerunners” who will participate in collective relays

• Marathon Pour Tous winners announcement – 31 January 
• Reveal of the design for the Olympic and Paralympic Medals – early February  
• Athlete Village handover to Paris 2024 – late February   
• Olympic Torch lighting in Olympia – 16 April    
• 100 days to go to the Olympic Games – 17 April   
• Arrival of the Olympic Torch Relay in Marseille – 8 May  
• Arrival of the Olympic Torch Relay in Paris – weekend of 14 July 
• Paralympic Torch lighting in Stoke Mandeville – mid August
